Benefits of Working with a CFP
What is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and what are the benefits of working with a CFP®?
The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation is widely recognized as the highest standard in personal financial planning. When you choose an advisor with the CFP® certification, you are choosing a professional that you can trust.
Best in the business: The CFP® Certification is the standard of excellence
CFP® professionals differ from other ‘financial planners’ in that they have completed extensive training, fulfilled education and experience requirements, and are held to strict ethical requirements.
By using a CFP® advisor, you can be sure that you will always receive recommendations that are in your best interests, from a professional who fully understands the complex nature of financial markets.
What requirements are there to achieve the CFP® certification?
- Education: CFP® professionals must fulfil specific academic requirements, which include holding a bachelor’s degree and having completed a program of study in personal financial planning. In addition, every 2 years Certified Financial Planners™ must complete 30 hours of continuing education.
- Examinations: All CFP® professionals must pass the rigorous CFP® certification examination. This assesses the ability of each advisor to apply their knowledge to specific situations.
- Experience: The CFP Board requires all CFP® professionals have 3 years of professional experience in the financial planning process.
- Ethics: CFP® professionals are required to adhere to strict ethical requirements and the highest standards of practice, as outlined by the CFP Board.
By fulfilling these requirements, advisors with the CFP® certification demonstrate their knowledge, expertise, and commitment to acting as a fiduciary.
